Hanging out with my friend Todd is always interesting, he is a total encyclopedia of music and it's a little like going to music school. He has so many records, he will play you a particular song and tell you all about it and who was in the band before someone else was in the band and how he bought the record at Trash American Style right before they went out of business. He will purchase several copies of the same record because they come in different colored vinyl, he had a Screeching Weasel record in white, clear, hot pink and orange but he only plays the clear because it's his least favorite. While I was there I got to listen to a full spectrum of bands including The Vile Cherubs, Mystifier and Love.

Some new tops to be posted up in my shop tonight. Also the mini flea market last night was fun, everyone was super cool. I have recently started wearing contacts and the prescription isn't quite right, some new ones have been ordered and are in the mail. My depth perception is off on them and last night it was apparent as I stood up to get another beer and tripped into erin's dj table, she was playing t rex and the record needle perfectly skipped to the next song. I had to swear I wasn't wasted! I probably shouldn't be driving cars any time soon either.

Stop by and visit me tomorrow night, I have collected lots of new and amazing vintage clothing which I will be selling at Bruar Falls. Lots of 70s sun dresses and delicate plaid blouses, all perfect for summer.

I just purchased a plane ticket to Ohio! I can't wait! It's been something I have been planning on doing forever. I have butterflies in my stomach.

Today we went out on our lunch break to the moma, our work ids get us in for free and I really wanted to see the James Ensor show. It was super rad, I have always liked him. He had an old fashioned sense of humor and there were lots of skeletons in gaudy costumes.

So now I am trying to remember how to play the guitar so I can join a band. It's harder than I remember! I've decided I'm going to practice playing nirvana on my roomate's guitar for the remainder of this evening.

Today is a strange strange day. It began with the bell ringing downstairs, I signed for a fedex package for the neighbors across the hall. The return address is a funeral home and the box is small and surprisingly heavy, the word "FRAGILE" is printed all over, I was wondering if it contains something like remains? Mysterious! Then I was out with Valerie, we were at Dean & Deluca when I was approached my a man who asked me questions, he explained that he was a casting director and asked if I could stop by the office of their magazine on Monday to have some pictures taken and to meet with the bookings editor. I am not entirely sure what it will involve but perhaps it could be interesting? Valerie was teasing me on the train afterwards, that I was just discovered at a Dean & Deluca. I elaborated on the fantasy by imagining quitting my painful job and yelling "See Ya!" at everyone. It's completely absurd, but fun to pretend. And then I get home and find out Michael Jackson has died!? What!

I was just searching for videos of a song and found one of a show I was actually at, long long ago. I was standing super close to the stage but it's hard to see anyone. I don't know why but this amazes me at the moment.
I used to love qotsa, really just the very first album which is hard to find, although it sounds like they are going to re-release it later in the year? I had it on a cassette tape which I used to listen to over and over and over. This is what it sounded like:

Bree came over today and modeled some vintage hats for my shop, I'm really psyched about how the photos came out. My favorite is the black one with the netting.

So lately I have been reading the journals of Lewis and Clark, it has been pretty intense so far. I am struck at how casually they mention dramatic events, they lay it out right alongside the most mundane of things. Oh and I like how they call prairie dogs "barking squirrels" and mosquitos "musquetors." I once waded into the Missouri River, I am imagining now that it must have been at a point they passed by. It was very muddy and I sank into the bottom, I remember watching as a very large tree limb was carried past me by the current and then wondering what else could be in the water. I backed out quickly but I remember feeling accomplished for having gone in at all.

Also yesterday I felt pretty dark, in the afternoon I ran into a friend on the street and immediately began to ramble disconsolately about the weather, it has been raining everyday forever it seems. He put his hand on my shoulder and told me that it would eventually end. Which of course I realize, I suppose I just needed to be reminded. Then later I tried to think of something distracting so I decided to watch that John Adams television show. I got about 15 minutes into it and it was all New Englandy and dirty and winter and dark and I thought what am I doing watching this? I have real new england winter memories of the power going out for a week at a time, not showering, lighting candles and sitting by a coal stove so it did not make me feel allright. I don't need history to be pretty I just wasn't in the right state of mind for it. I turned it off and instead watched the movie the wrestler which was sad as well. Oh but it is really amazing, just pretty profoundly sad. I loved that scene in the bar though, when they sing along to that Ratt song.

A preview of some of the new things going into the shop tonight. In other news, I had an unsettling dream last night. I dreamed that I was walking down a school corridor in the middle of the night, it was dimly lit and we were cautiously making our way past beige metal lockers. Suddenly a vampire bat flew out of a locker and it bit me on the wrist leaving two triangle shaped marks like notches in a sewing pattern. I panicked thinking that I would become rabid or die but no one seemed concerned, I then went to class instead of seeking medical attention. I felt like my arm was going numb, probably because I was sleeping on it funny and it felt that way in real life. The problem was not resolved by the time I woke up. Oh but now that I think about it I have felt this vague lust for blood today. No way, I'm just kidding.

You know who were the coolest? The Runaways! I can't stop listening to them today. It may have something to do with wanting to wear jumpsuits and eyeliner. So anyways, since my computer died I lost photoshop so I am out of order until I get the copy jonee sent me in the mail, he sent it express yesterday afternoon but it was from california late in the day so unfortunately it did not arrive today. I have to work tomorrow so it will be another day I can't post over at secretlake. I am sitting next to a mountain of vintage I need to post, it's making me crazy! I found the cutest things this trip, holy smokes. I have a plaid romper, high waisted shorts, a bandanna print blouse, a yellow flower print 70's bathing suit, a southwestern print woven bag, mini dresses, sun dresses, an amazing mod suitcase and more. It's going to be great.

This weekend katie visited us, it was so fun, I really wish she would move to new york. I think she should be our third roomate. Oh and in very sad news my computer hard drive died unexpectedly, I know your supposed to back things up and everything but I thought it was too young for me to worry, who knew! When I brought it to the genius bar today the boy looked at it and quickly said, "oh, this doesn't look good." When you turned it on the screen would appear grey with an ominous question mark in the middle. I went kind of numb as I heard the news and now I keep thinking about random photos I will never see again, it's so sad. Maybe it's for the best. Afterwards I wandered through the mall with my cousin and bought makeup. It was strangely comforting.

melvins!

Yesterday was a day I had been waiting for for a long time, it was the day we went to see the melvins! They are my favorite band of absolutely all time so I completely freak out about going to see them. It sounded so amazing, it was just the best. It ended early though, we wandered outside with no plans or direction until we received a text from jeremiah's friend, he was at a party and the text read "shit is swank" which left us intrigued. We took a cab to the neighborhood we thought it was at and a man approached us on the sidewalk, he said "what's new picachu?" to jeremiah, they had met before and he had just left the party we were trying to find. We asked him for some more details and he said the party was at an apartment of an artist who was big in the 80's. He led us to the door and we took the elevator upstairs. When the door opened I was so blown away, it was the biggest new york apartment I have ever seen and there was amazing art on every wall. There were glass fronted cabinets filled with fancy glasses and plates, there were cakes and a little white fluffy dog was walking around, everyone was picking him up and giving him hugs. A dance party was in full swing in the living room, it felt like new years eve it was so much fun. Oh and all of the pictures here were taken by jeremiah, he got a new super small camera and he is really good about taking a million pictures. Then later I fell asleep and dreamed that I was in an apartment where bees were swarming upon and building honey combs over every window, blocking out the light. I thought "oh, I should really call the landlord." and then I woke up. And now it is today.
cake!
